The Disaster/Emergency Response Program is an emerging program of EAKBC-WDA that intends to reduce vulnerability and risks of victims of disaster/emergency through promoting psychosocial support for victims of emergency, supporting relief program of the government, promoting tolerance, reconciliation and peace building in conflict prone districts and in IDP centers.
EAKBC-WDA aims at renovating schools' infrastructures destroyed because of conflicts, natural disasters and other calamities. In general, under this program, it is intended at providing education opportunity for emergency affected children who are deprived of their education opportunities because of any disaster.
Under this program, in the month of July and August 2022, EAKBC-WDA distributed food and nonfood items worth ETB 23 million for over 7000 IDPs in Mehalmeda Town, MenzGera and MenzKeya Districts of North Shewa Zone, in Amhara Region. The fund was granted by Compassion International Ethiopia. In addition, by the financial support of Global Care, edible maize was distributed among farmers who lost their farm animals and crops in Kembata Tembaro Zone of SNNP in the late August 2022. As the disaster still is overwhelming the entire country, EAKBC-WDA has the intention to strengthen this program and is soliciting different funding agencies.
